What is carboxytherapy?

Carboxytherapy is one of the best treatments to combat cellulite, excess body fat, skin laxity, and the signs of ageing on the face and body, particularly as the years begin to take their toll on different areas.

It is a non-surgical, minimally invasive method that involves the therapeutic use of carbon dioxide (CO2) injected subcutaneously.

This therapy originated in the 1950s at the Royat thermal water station in France, where a group of cardiologists used it to treat patients with various conditions related to poor blood circulation and fat accumulation.

What does the procedure involve?

Carboxytherapy is administered through a device that regulates the flow rate, injection time, and monitors the percentage of the dose administered, stimulating tissues for cellular oxygenation and even boosting collagen production.

CO2 is injected subcutaneously using a sterilised needle similar to those used for insulin, connected to a very thin cannula, which is in turn attached to a specialised device.

As the CO2 gas penetrates, it causes hyperdistension of the subcutaneous tissue, releasing bradykinin, serotonin, histamine, and catecholamines, which stimulate beta-adrenergic receptors, leading to lipolysis (fat cell destruction). This also improves circulation, making the skin smoother and firmer.
