What is the hymen?
It is a membrane located at the entrance of the vagina that is formed embryologically, although one in every thousand women is born without a hymen.
In general, with first sexual intercourse the hymen breaks and is reduced to the so-called “carunculae myrtiformes.” About 44% of women do not experience bleeding during defloration.
In recent years, the demand for hymen reconstruction has increased.

Hymenoplasty:
It consists of the reconstruction of the hymen, mainly using two techniques:
- Suturing of the carunculae myrtiformes.
- Creation of two small vaginal mucosal flaps.
Postoperative period:
It is advisable to rest for 1–2 days and avoid sports for 10 days, as well as avoid sexual activity for 40 days.
