Otoplasty
What is otoplasty?
Protruding ears, colloquially known as “lop ears”, not only make children self-conscious but also adults, affecting their appearance and self-confidence.
At the Dr. Ana Torres Institute, we offer a solution through otoplasty, which consists of to naturally reshape the auricle using small instruments that allow us to scrape the cartilage, so that it bends, using sutures, at our convenience and of course, according to the particular needs of the patient.
In this type of procedure, the scar will be located on the back of your ear, so it will be imperceptible even when wearing your hair short or tied up.
In the case of children, it is advisable to perform otoplasty from the age of six.
What does the procedure involve?
Otoplasty is a surgery to correct “protruding ears” which in many cases generates distrust and discomfort in patients.
Through discreet incisions behind your ears, we reshape the cartilage so that the ears sit closer to the head, achieving a natural look and eliminating that protruding appearance.
Ideal for improving facial harmony and self-esteem. It is safe, and the scars are almost imperceptible as it is a minimally invasive procedure.
*You may experience swelling and some discomfort, which will subside in the hours following the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does otoplasty require hospitalization?
This procedure is minimally invasive, making it an outpatient procedure that does not require hospitalization, and the downtime is very short compared to other more complex surgical procedures.
What is the aftercare following otoplasty?
You will wear a bandage for 24 hours and then an elastic headband for a week. When it is removed, your ears will be slightly swollen, but this will gradually decrease over the following days and weeks until you see the final results.
The stitches are removed after 7-8 days. In the meantime, you can wash your hair and resume your normal activities. It is important that you follow the recommendations of the specialist at the Dr. Ana Torres Institute precisely.
Can I wear glasses after otoplasty?
It is recommended that you avoid wearing glasses for the first few weeks after surgery, as they can put pressure on the ears and affect healing, thus impacting the final result of the otoplasty.
Is otoplasty painful?
Otoplasty may cause temporary discomfort or pain after surgery, but the specialist at the Dra. Ana Torres Institute will prescribe painkillers to control the pain, so both during and after the procedure, the pain will be minimal or even nonexistent.
Are otoplasty scars visible?
Otoplasty scars are usually located behind the ear, in the natural crease, so they are barely visible, even if you have short hair, meaning they won’t bother you.
