Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting nasal deformities by modifying the shape of the nose, which leads to improved facial balance and harmony.

Each rhinoplasty procedure is a unique case that must be carefully evaluated on an individual basis.

The final aesthetic appearance of the nose after surgery will be obtained after a period of no less than six months.

This change is so slow and progressive that it may not even be noticed. However, we must insist on the importance of this time in order to evaluate the end result.

Correction of nasal deformities

The nose is the central axis of the face and is a cause of deep dissatisfaction for many people.

PREOPERATIVE

As with any surgery, during the initial consultation, the condition of the nose will be analyzed, as well as the breathing and general state of health (illnesses, allergies, medication taken).

Preoperative tests will be conducted (ECG, complete analysis and chest x-ray). If you do have respiratory problems, otorhinolaryngology tests will be requested.

ANAESTHESIA

Rhinoplasty can be performed using general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation.

SURGICAL PROCEDURE

There are two methods for performing this surgery:

  1. Closed rhinoplasty: This is the most common rhinoplasty technique: The operation is performed by making incisions inside the nostrils so that no external scarring is visible.

Working inside the nose, the surgeon can shape and model the nasal bones and cartilage to create a new structure.

This involves retracting and adapting the skin and membranes until the desired shape is obtained.

  2. Open rhinoplasty: Is recommended in cases in which there is a greater degree of malformation at the tip.

By cutting the membranes at the tip and dorsum of the nose, the surgeon directly accesses the nasal structures.

This type of surgery leaves a small scar at the base of the columella.

Some patients need to increase the size of their noses (Asian origins, post-trauma, etc.) to make the tip more prominent, to lift a sunken dorsum or to correct malformations.

In these cases, Dr. Ana M. Torres uses grafts with tissues from the patient to shape and support the nose.

HOSPITALIZATION

Patients are generally admitted on the day of the surgery and discharged on the morning after the procedure.

POSTOPERATIVE CARE

In the operating theatre, in some cases small plugs are inserted, which are to be removed when the patient is discharged.

A plaster cast or a plastic splint is usually placed over the nose, which is removed after seven days.

For this procedure and following the homeopathic medicine protocol, analgesics are not required except in the first hours.
