Abdominoplasty

The abdomen is one of the body areas where fat deposits are most often found.

Pregnancy, often followed by distention of the abdomen muscles, weight changes and hormone disorders all contribute to the formation of an unattractive tummy or one with deformities.

When there is excess abdominal fat and skin, dermolipectomy improves skin tension, as excess skin and fat is extracted, while at the same time the muscles that have separated can also be sutured.

Abdominoplasty

Dr. A.M. Torres will advise you concerning all options available to resolve your problem, evaluate your state of health (illnesses, allergies, etc.) and listen to your expectations.

Like all procedures, a previous medical exam is essential for detecting any possible anomalies that could negatively affect the operation.

We recommend that you stop smoking two weeks before the procedure and continue not to smoke in the first postoperative weeks.

Abdominoplasty must often be combined with flank liposuction to fully define the waistline.

The operation can be performed with general or epidural anaesthesia.

Abdominoplasty consists of extracting skin and fat from below the navel.

The scar will be completely hidden by your underwear or bikini. If necessary, the muscles will be sutured to fully enhance and lift the waistline and strengthen the abdominal wall.

The length of the incision will depend on the slackness of the patient's skin and general obesity.

The entire procedure lasts two or three hours, depending on its complexity.

After the surgery, you will have to use a drainage system for 24 or 48 hours, depending on each individual case. The stitches are removed after two weeks.

You will have to remain in the hospital for at least one day after the procedure.

We recommend that you rest for one week after the procedure and also wear a girdle around the abdomen for approximately one month.

You can begin your normal daily activities after two weeks and gradually start to do physical exercise after one month.

When the dressing is removed, postoperative swelling will appear which will gradually lessen and disappear. In general, the final result will become fully visible in three to four months. The sensitivity of the area affected by the surgery will slowly recover and will be fully restored within 6 to 12 months.

Post-surgery care and lymphatic drainage are important in obtaining good results. In cases where there have been sutures in the abdominal muscles, physiotherapy rehabilitation is often recommended.

BEFORE SURGERY (PREOPERATIVE)

  • During the week prior to surgery take the indicated homeopathic treatment.
  • Have a light dinner the night before.
  • Have a shower the night before or on the morning of the surgery, without using oils or moisturizing creams.
  • Be on an empty stomach (do not smoke or consume alcoholic drinks before the intervention).

REMEMBER TO BRING (documentation and clothing)

  • Informed consent forms, read and signed.
  • Admission documents, read and signed (blue folder).
  • Preoperative (analysis, electrocardiogram and other tests performed).
  • Recommended girdle.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.

AFTER SURGERY (POSTOPERATIVE)

  • Make sure you rest for the 3 days after the intervention. Do not make efforts but do walk.
  • From the second day onwards the wounds need to be cleaned with dabs of iodine or Cristalmina, a little antibiotic cream such as Bactroban and cover each wound with a plaster.
  • Two weeks after surgery you will need to make an appointment to have the stitches removed.
  • Do not forget the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medical guidelines to be followed for 5-7 days or to follow the homeopathic treatment.
  • You should wear the girdle for a minimum of 3 weeks.
  • A lymphatic drain or INDIBA in the area of the abdominoplasty / liposuction is recommended on the 3rd day after leaving the clinic.
  • If bruising appears, Thrombocid or arnica cream can be applied.
  • If a lipotransfer has been performed, the area should be kept warm (with a vest) in order to achieve the best adaptation of the cells.
  • We recommend that you sleep with your chest and legs raised in a V shaped position.
  • If you have any doubts or discomfort, you can call the consulting rooms or the doctor's telephone.

Liposculpture

Liposuction is a surgical technique that allows the correction of body areas where persistent fatty accumulations persist despite diet regimes and exercise.

It is a very effective technique to provide a new body contour with minimal scars.

The extracted fat does not reappear because the fat cells have been completely removed.

This does not happen with other non-surgical techniques (ultrasound, cavitation), which only manage to empty the fat cell but not eliminate it.

The results can be permanent, as long as you maintain a proper diet and practice exercise periodically.

Liposculpture

Elimina acúmulos grasos rebeldes

Dr. A. M. Torres will advise you on all the options available to solve your problem, evaluate your health (diseases, allergies, etc.) and listen to your expectations.

The places where the body accumulates fat will be determined and she will calculate the approximate volume necessary to extract to recover a suitable body contour, always taking into account the quality of the skin of the affected area.

You should stop smoking 2 weeks before the procedure and maintain the restriction during the first weeks of the postoperative period.

As for all procedures, prior medical examination is essential to detect any possible abnormalities that may contraindicate the operation.

In general, local anesthesia will be used for small volume liposuction and local anesthesia plus sedation or epidural anesthesia in larger volume liposuction.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess fat in the affected area (abdomen, hips, thighs, knees or chest area) by suctioning with thin cannulas that are inserted through small incisions in the fatty acid deposits under the skin.

All liposuction procedures are performed at the Quirón Teknon Hospital with our Humanmed BODY-JETT, which allows us to extract the fat more easily by means of pressurized water, avoiding hematomas and leading to more manageable postoperative periods.

The length of the procedure will determine whether patients need to be hospitalized or if the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.

After liposuction and for the first month, a girdle should be used and lymphatic drainage should be performed in the treated area to control inflammation and allow the skin to adapt to the new contour.

In addition to the swelling and bruising from the procedure, liposuction leaves tiny, scarcely noticeable scars, since the cannulas by which the fat is aspirated are very fine.

It takes some time for these signs to disappear and the results to be fully appreciated. Liposuction should lead to an improvement in habits (sports, care) and nutrition of the patient; this is how you will see better results.

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE (PREOPERATIVE)

  • During the week prior to the procedure take the indicated homeopathic treatment.
  • Have a light dinner the night before.
  • Have a shower the night before or on the morning of the procedure, without using oils or moisturizing creams.
  • Be on an empty stomach (do not smoke or consume alcoholic drinks before the intervention).
  • Prepare everything necessary for postoperative treatment: round bandages, bactroban cream, cristalmina solution and small gauze.

REMEMBER TO BRING (documentation and clothing)

  • Informed consent forms, read and signed.
  • Admission documents, read and signed (blue folder).
  • Preoperative (analysis, electrocardiogram and other tests performed).
  • Recommended girdle.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.

AFTER THE INTERVENTION (POSTOPERATIVE)

  • Make sure you rest during the 3 days after the intervention. Do not make efforts but do walk.
  • From the second day onwards the wounds need to be cleaned with dabs of iodine or Cristalmina, a little antibiotic cream such as Bactroban and cover each wound with a plaster.
  • One week after the intervention you will need to make an appointment to have the stitches removed.
  • Do not forget the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medical guidelines to be followed during 5-7 days or to follow the homeopathic treatment.
  • You should wear the girdle for a minimum of 3 weeks.
  • A lymphatic drain or INDIBA is recommended in the area of the liposuction. This can be done on the 3rd day after the procedure.
  • If bruising appears, Thrombocid or arnica cream can be applied.
  • If lipotransfer has been performed, the area should be kept warm (with a vest) in order to achieve the best adaptation of the cells.
  • If you have any doubts or discomfort, you can call the consulting rooms or the doctor's telephone.

Lipotransfer

Within the field of cosmetic surgery, lipotransfer is a regenerative or reconstructive technique that consists of removing fat from one part of the body to place it in another.

More specifically, first a liposuction is performed and during the same procedure, the fat that has been removed from one part of the body is used to fill another part that is to be augmented or improved, for example to eliminate facial wrinkles, fill lips or augment breast size.

The use of the patients own body fat as a filling material to restore and add volume to the chest or lips, or to remodel the body contours, means that synthetic or semi-synthetic materials do not have to be used, which could cause possible complications with extrusion and/or a reaction against a foreign element, and its later rejection.

The results obtained from autologous fat grafts are highly satisfactory, both for cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries and for small and large amounts, as there are 5% stem cells, or mesenchymal cells in our fat, which regenerate tissues.

THE TECHNIQUE

Dr. Torres uses the Body-Jet Lipotransfer machine to perform lipotransfer, which is designed for both liposuction and lipotransfer and uses a water jet to detach fat cells from the tissue via the WAL method (Water Assisted Liposuction).

One of the numerous advantages of this technique is that the water jet does not damage the tissue stem cells. In the field of cosmetic medicine, this procedure is always the fastest, most practical and involves the least handling of the adipose tissue grafts of any other common technique.

Patients must first undergo a preoperative exam: ECG and complete medical exam and tests.

Depending on the area being treated, the procedure is performed with local anaesthesia, epidural anaesthesia or, if the patient prefers, general anaesthesia.

Dr. A.M. Torres generally uses the Body-Jet Lipotransfer to extract fat (from the abdomen or the inside of the knees or thighs).

Extracting fat using high-pressure water jets leads to much less postoperative pain and obtains high-quality fat.

This extracted fat is washed and centrifuged to then be inserted by infiltration into the area you wish to augment, through small incisions (1 or 2). The surgery takes an average of two to three hours.

The length of the procedure will determine whether patients need to be hospitalized or if the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, so that patients can sleep in their own beds.

Patients will have to wear a girdle over the area that has undergone liposuction for 2-3 weeks. There may be bruising or swelling for a few days. Depending on the amount of fat extracted from the donor area, lymphatic drainage may be required.

The results are spectacular using this minimal surgery, and the body recovers its beauty naturally.

The fat from the body areas that have been bothering the patient for many years is removed and is used to fill in other areas where fat was needed, such as in the lips, breasts or wrinkles.

BEFORE THE PROCEDURE (PREOPERATIVE)

Breast Surgery

Breast augmentation using implants

Many women are not satisfied with the size or shape of their breasts, either due to genetic causes or pregnancy.

Augmentation mammoplasty is a surgical technique aimed at improving the volume and shape of women's breasts, helping them feel better about themselves.

In the very first consultation we define the type of implant and the volume that best meets your expectations.

We normally recommend implants with sizes that correspond with the measurements of the breasts and thorax, so that they can be filled normally.

To select the size of the implant with precision and establish ideal dimensions, the desired length, height and projection are all measured.

Breast augmentation using implants

Mejora el volumen y la forma del pecho.

After you have decided to undergo the procedure, there will be preoperative work (ECG, mammography, a full range of tests and a coagulation analysis).

At the second appointment, Dr. A.M. Torres will provide you with full details concerningthe surgery. We recommend a preoperative course of homeopathic medicine (Boiron®).

The procedure is performed at the Quirón Teknon Hospital under local anaesthesia and sedation.

General anaesthesia is only required when a retro-muscular implant is inserted. Anaesthesia is administered by expert anaesthetists from the CEDO Group.

In augmentation mammoplasty, the best technique is determined depending on the characteristics of the skin, breast tissue, bone structure and age of the patient.

There are different methods for inserting the prosthesis, which are primarily: axillary (underarm), aureole (nipple) or sub-mammary.

Precisely where the implant will be placed needs to be determined with the patient: behind the muscle, behind the fascia or behind the mammary gland.

The procedure takes approximately one hour.

In general, patients are admitted to the Quirón Teknon Hospital for one night and are discharged the following day.

At least two or three days of rest are recommended.

Dr. A.M. Torres also recommends wearing a sports bra for two weeks. Patients can then gradually resume their normal daily activities, except for lifting weights or bending over.

Breast augmentation surgery is performed by Dr. Ana M. Torres, who is a member of SECPRE. Although complications are infrequent, we must speak openly when there is even the slightest possibility of surgical risk:

  • Scarring problems: Patients with fair, thick skin may suffer from thickening of the scars. To prevent this, we take great care in the sutures during surgery.

One week after augmentation mammoplasty we recommend applying dressing with Novartis® Trofoelastin cream and musk rose oil. We will continue to monitor the scarring process in subsequent checkups.

  • Capsular contracture: This consists of the hardening of the internal scar surrounding the implant. According to studies, this occurs in two to five percent of cases. To prevent it we recommend that patients give themselves post-operative massages.

In very rare cases patients will need to take medication such as Accolate and have ultrasounds to break up the capsule.

  • Infection of implant: this is extremely rare, occurring in 1% of cases according to studies. It is prevented by taking extreme antiseptic measures in operating theatres and prescribing antibiotics for five days after surgery.

  • Implant rotation.

  • Haematoma: The aesthetic result of breast augmentation surgery is excellent because we seek perfection in our results. After the scarring and inflammation processes have ended, the breasts will feel and look firm and have a natural consistency.

BEFORE SURGERY (PREOPERATIVE)

  • One week prior to surgery start taking the indicated homeopathic treatment.

  • You can have a shower the night before, without using oils or moisturizing creams.

  • Be on an empty stomach (do not smoke or consume alcoholic drinks before surgery).

REMEMBER TO BRING (DOCUMENTATION AND CLOTHING)

  • Informed consent forms, read and signed.

  • Admission documents, read and signed (blue folder).

  • Preoperative (blood test, electrocardiogram, chest X-ray if conducted).

  • Bra recommended by the doctor.

  • Wear comfortable clothes.

AFTER SURGERY (POSTOPERATIVE)

  • 4-7 days after surgery you will need to make an appointment for a check-up.

  • You can shower from the second day onwards. After showering, clean wounds with disinfectant (Povidona or Cristalmina) and apply an antibiotic cream such as Bactroban.

  • The bra should be worn day and night for the first two weeks, and thereafter for two weeks more only during the day.

  • A lymphatic drain or INDIBA is recommended.

  • Take the medication according to the instructions given (Antibiotics, analgesics and anti-inflammatory).

  • Continue with the homeopathic treatment as indicated.

  • Try to rest for 2-3 days. Do not make any strenuous effort but do walk.

  • We recommend that you sleep with your chest raised which will help reduce the swelling.

  • If you have any doubts or discomfort, you can call the consulting rooms or the doctor's telephone.

Breast augmentation with own fat

The amount of fat under the skin (subcutaneous tissue) gradually starts disappearing as we age and this can be seen quite clearly in the breasts.

The technique which allows volume to be added to different areas of the body by using the patient's own fat as filling material is known as Lipostructure. For breasts, this fat is inserted into the subcutaneous tissue at an intramuscular level.

Using the patient's own fat as a filling material, to restore and provide volume or to remodel, prevents any chance of rejection or incompatibility because the material comes from the patient's own body. Autologous fat is defined as the best fill material and the least harmful for the body.

After you have decided to undergo the procedure, there will be preoperative work (ECG, mammography, a full range of tests and a coagulation analysis).

At the second appointment, Dr. A.M. Torres will provide you with full details concerning the surgery.

To obtain and then implant the fatty tissue, a local anaesthetic and sometimes a sedative is required, depending on the patient and the amount of fat needed in each case.

The most frequent donor areas are: abdomen, inside of the thighs and knees, trochanters (hips) and jowels.

All liposuction procedures are performed at the Quirón Teknon Hospital using the Human Med Body-Jet, which allows easier fat extraction by using high-pressure water that helps prevent bruising and ensures much more comfortable postoperative periods. The extracted fat is stored in a sterile environment with no need for manipulation and is then rinsed with serum and kept until infiltration time.

To prevent the fat from being reabsorbed and thereby achieve long lasting results, the fat tissue infiltration or graft is intramuscular and subcutaneous, using the minimum number of incisions. Micro-cannulae are used to deposit small implants which enable the receptor tissue to adapt to them so that they are well vascularized, with a lower percentage of re-absorption.

The length of the procedure will determine whether or not patients need to be hospitalized, or if it can be done on an outpatient basis.

Patients must wear a compression garment, as in the case of liposuction, have lymphatic drainage in the donor areas and apply moderate heat to the receptor areas, refrain from physical exercise during the first month, moisturize the skin and avoid exposure to the sun for one month.

For mammary augmentation, it should be mentioned that the injection of purified fat into the chest does not change the risk of breast cancer in the least, according to all data available at this time.

Benign calcifications may appear that a qualified radiologist can easily distinguish from suspect calcifications due to their shape and location.

Oily cysts may appear as well, which are benign, although they are occasionally palpable or may need to be pricked for evaluation.

In any case, and to avoid any unwelcome surprises, we recommend strict mammography controls for the first years after surgery with the aim of clearly documenting the appearance of these images and avoiding future confusion:

First mammography 9-12 months after the procedure. Monitoring every six months for two years after the first mammography.

Breast reduction

Breasts that are excessively large can make daily life complex and difficult and also cause back and shoulder pain.

Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty is a surgical technique with the main objective of modifying the shape and size of the breasts to adapt them to patient's aesthetic and functional requirements.

After deciding to undergo the procedure, we recommend having a preoperative exam, which includes a recent mammography, an ECG and full range of tests with coagulation analysis.

Then another appointment is generally made with Dr. A.M. Torres to review the tests and talk about the details of the surgery.

We prefer general anaesthetic for this type of procedure.

Deciding on one type of procedure or another will depend on the volume and characteristics of your breasts: Nipple height, width of the implant pedicle, its extension to the underarm and the distance between both breasts.

In the majority of cases, Dr, A.M. Torres performs breast reductions using the Lejour method, which leaves only one vertical scar and another around the areola, thus preventing any scarring in the sub-mammary crease.

The procedure is performed at the Quirón Teknon Hospital and patients are discharged the next day.

We recommend at least four or five days of rest.

Special bras must be worn for three to four weeks to ensure good scarring.

Breast reduction surgery is performed by Dr.

One week after the breast reduction, we recommend applying dressing with Novartis® Trofoelastin cream and musk rose oil. Then we will continue to monitor the scarring process in subsequent checkups. In extremely large breasts, the scars may require a subsequent follow-up surgery.

  • Infection: It is very rare and we prevent this by prescribing antibiotics for five days.

Breast deformities

Many women consult us because they have some type of breast deformity. Tuberous or asymmetrical breasts, Poland syndrome…

This defect can often alter our self-esteem, and being able to talk about the problem with another woman like Dr. A.M. Torres can make it easier for us.

Buttock Augmentation

The gluteal region has taken on greater significance in recent years.

Dr. Ana M. Torres prefers to perform buttock augmentation using the patient's own fat (lipotransfer) or hyaluronic acid (MACROLANE®). In some cases, she may recommend gluteal prostheses, which are implanted at an intramuscular level.

The results achieved are natural and noticeable immediately after the procedure, even though the final result will not be seen for a few months.

Buttock Augmentation

La Dra. Ana Torres prefiere el aumento de glúteos con grasa propia

Like all surgical procedures, it is essential to have a preoperative study performed to ensure that there are no contraindications.

Specifically for this procedure, we recommend washing the entire perineum region with antiseptics for three days before surgery.

Anaesthesia can be either regional or general.

This will be agreed upon with the anaesthetist, who will decide which is most advisable for each patient.

The surgery is performed in a prone or face down, position and the scar is hidden in the gluteal cleft.

Through this incision, the buttock implants which are specially designed for this area are inserted intramuscularly or subfascially, depending on each patient and the volume required.

The procedure normally takes from 90 to 120 minutes. Patients can resume their normal lives the day after the surgery.

Patients will usually remain in the clinic for 24 hours after surgery.

Patients can sit down after 36 hours, leaving the clinic with only a dressing on the scar and a small panty liner.

No special postoperative care is required, except for using antiseptics in the perineum region for one week.

Stitches on the wound are removed after two weeks and patients can start exercising one month after the procedure.

The results achieved are natural and noticeable two months after the procedure, even though the final result will not be seen for about one year.

Calf augmentation

Legs are also aesthetically important. Their lack of development or atrophy with age creates complexes, because the body becomes disfigured.

Sometimes the problem may only affect one leg due to a traumatism or polio, which makes the defect even more noticeable.

We have three different methods for calf augmentation:

  • The most efficient remedy is an implant that gives the calves the desired shape and volume.
  • Lipofilling with grafts of the patient's own fat.

Calf augmentation

The results of calf augmentation are highly satisfactory due to their natural appearance.

Like in any surgical procedure, patients must undergo a preoperative examination to detect any possible anomaly that could negatively affect the operation.

Epidural or general anaesthesia is administered for the procedure.

Infiltration can be done using local anaesthetic, with no need to go into the operating theatre.

The procedure consists of making a four centimetre incision close to the back fold of the knee.

This creates a pocket between the inside of the calf muscle and its aponeurosis. The implant, which is specially adapted to the needs of each patient, is then inserted into this cavity. Concerning this, it should be mentioned that every implant is specifically created for one anatomical area.

The procedure takes approximately one hour.

In general, 24 hours at the clinic are sufficient for the treatment to be performed.

Patients will progressively recover and should be able to walk at a normal pace after one week.

After this period, the stitches are removed and the remaining scar is some 4 cm long, close to the rear fold of the knee. In any case, we recommend that patients wear elastic compression stockings for three weeks.
